with several close family members in our armed forces (including my husband), i don't see it as a big deal at all!  let them have their 2 beers, let them wind down after that hard day...they are far from home and it's just a taste of what they're missing while away.

Two beers isn't going to get the average soldier anywhere near impaired, so there's no worries about making them vulnerable at all. Frankly, I think it'd be a nice slice of home. And a greeeeat money-making opportunity for any non-drinkers over there. ;)

Funny, I have this weekly get together every Friday with these senior citizens to discuss politics, religion, current events, etc. The last one we had a former Army Lt. and this topic came up.

Soldiers used to get regular free beers. Like 2 a day or a 6pack on the weekends or etc. He thinks it's absolutely ridiculous that they get no ration now and have to wait until they're on leave before going out consequently getting sloshed. I agree with him. I enjoy a stiff drink or glass of wine every now and then after a hard days work. Why should they be denied the same?

I saw the other end of things.... my dad was a military lifer... and an alcoholic.  Personally... I don't think beer is very high on the priority list and would say we have better things to spend tax-payer money on than booze.

    Just my 2 cents.
